The Israeli Ministry of Economy just announced its plans for 3D printing of titanium components for their aircraft.
According to Avi Hasson, scientific director of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Israel will be ready to equip their aircraft with 3D printed titanium parts at the end of 2015. The consortium, called “Atid” was established for this purpose. The consortium consist of many different subsidiary such as: Cyclone, a subsidiary of the Israeli aerospace company Elbit Systems, the company Orbit, Algat, Kass, Admar, the Israeli aerospace and defense industries as well as researchers from academic institutions. “Atid” will not develop any new 3D printer, instead the most of existing technology and equipment will be used to determine and print geometrically complex objects in titanium.
